Rat and the Magic Potion

By Jamie F.

Long, long ago, when the earth was young, there was a beautiful, beautiful blue dragon named Ching Tai Chi Chi Suey Lin Ti. He had a best friend who was a rat. The rat's name was Chi Ching Cho Choy Cha. They had been best friends since they were born.

One hot summer day, the rat felt dehydrated and decided to drink some water out of the river. Meanwhile, when the rat was on his way to the river, the water god was in a very bad mood because a few of the young animals were being very naughty. They were spitting into the river to see who could spit the farthest. Also, they were skipping stones in the river. The water god was very sensitive about these things, so he became very angry and put a magic potion into the river which made anyone who drank from it nasty and mean.

Chi Ching Cho Choy Cha didn't know that the water god didn't want anyone to drink from his river. So, he continued on his way. When he finally arrived, he jumped into the river and started gulping as much water as he could fit into his mouth. After a few minutes, he stopped and said, "Aaaaahhhhh......., that was refreshing," and stomped on his way home.

After Chi Ching Cho Choy Cha was out of sight, the water god slowly rose out of the water, rubbed his hands together in a grim way, and said, "Heh, that will teach him a lesson." Then, he plunged back into the river.

When Chi Ching Cho Choy Cha finally returned to his home, he ran through the door and slammed it so hard it fell off its hinges and crashed to the ground. Dust flew everywhere.

"What's wrong with Chi Ching Cho Choy Cha?" said a bunny named Ching Tai Chi Chi Suey Lin Ti to Bao Chaung.

"Who knows?" said Bao Chaung.

"Let's find out," said Ching Tai Chi Chi Suey Lin Ti. So they walked toward the house and took one step in. They couldn't knock on the door because it had fallen down.

Bao Chaung called to his friend, "Oh, Chi Ching Cho Choy Cha! Can we come in?"

"Well, it depends on who you are," yelled Chi Ching Cho Choy Cha.

"It's Bao Chaung and me," said Ching Tai Chi Chi Suey Lin Ti.

"Go away," yelled Chi Ching Cho Choy Cha.

"Chi Ching Cho Choy Cha seems to be in a bad mood," said Bao Chaung to Ching Tai Chi Chi Suey Lin Ti.

"We should leave," said Ching Tai Chi Chi Suey Lin Ti.

Ching Tai Chi Chi Suey Lin Ti decided to go to the river for a little relaxation. When he arrived, he laid down on the soft, soft sand and closed his eyes. He wondered why Chi Ching Co Choy Cha was in such a bad mood and thought that he would ask the water god if he knew. He got up, went near the water, and said, "Oh, mighty water god, I need to ask you a very important question."

The water god slowly rose out of the water and said, "Ching Tai Chi Chi Suey Lin Ti, what is your question?"

Ching Tai Chi Chi Suey Lin Ti said, "Chi Ching Co Choy Cha is in a very, very bad mood. He even broke down his front door. He used to be so nice. Why is he in such a bad mood?"

The water god explained that he put a potion in the water that made anyone who drank it very nasty. He said he was angry that the young animals were spitting and skipping stones in the water. The water god said that he didn't want them spitting in the water because he wanted to keep the water clean for the sea animals who lived there. Also, he didn't want them skipping stones in the river because he was afraid it might hurt one of the sea animals.

Ching Tai Chi Chi Suey Lin Ti said, "What can I do to help change Chi Ching Co Choy Cha's mood?"

The water god answered, "Stop those young rascals from spitting and skipping stones in my river. If you do that, I'll take the potion out of the water. Then, if he drinks a potion I will give you, Chi Ching Co Choy Cha will be happy again."

Ching Tai Chi Chi Suey Lin Ti hurried back to the village. When he got there, he saw Chi Ching Co Choy Cha nibbling off a little branch of a tree where a nest of birds lived. He was cackling as he chewed.

Ching Tai Chi Chi Suey Lin Ti said, "Stop, stop, Chi Ching Co Choy Cha. You'll make the baby birds fall out of their nest!!!"

Ching Tai Chi Chi Suey Lin Ti ran to the tree and pulled Chi Ching Co Choy Cha off of the branch. Then he caught the nest just as it was falling to the ground and put it on another branch.

"I can't believe you would do something like that," said Ching Tai Chi Chi Suey Lin Ti to Chi Ching Co Choy Cha.

Chi Ching Co Choy Cha said, "Well, I have to have some fun in my life." Ching Tai Chi Chi Suey Lin Ti walked away, shaking his head.

Ching Tai Chi Chi Suey Lin Ti then barged into the clubhouse of the young animals and said, "You must stop spitting and throwing stones in the river. Don't do that anymore!!"

"Why not, Mr. Ching Tai Chi Chi Suey Lin Ti sir?" said the the little frog Chi Bow.

Ching Tai Chi Chi Suey Lin Ti explained, "The water god wants to keep the river clean and he doesn't want the sea animals to get hit with rocks. Besides, he put a potion in the water which makes anyone who drinks it very nasty. My friend Chi Ching Co Choy Cha used to be nice, but now he is nasty - all because of you. You made the water god mad!"

The young animals then said, "Don't spoil our fun, Mr. Ching Tai Chi Chi Suey Lin Ti, sir. We were having such a good time."

Ching Tai Chi Chi Suey Lin Ti lost his patience with the young animals and started blowing fireballs into the air. At once, all the children screamed, "Ok, Ok, we'll stop!!! Please, don't make any more fire."

Ching Tai Chi Chi Suey Lin Ti left and went to the water god. "The young animals promised me they would stop spitting and skipping stones in the water. I blew fireballs into the air so they would listen."

The water god said, "Ching Tai Chi Chi Suey Lin Ti, I believe you. Here's a potion you can give Chi Ching Co Choy Cha to drink and he will be his sweet self again."

"Oh, thank you, great and mighty water god," said Ching Tai Chi Chi Suey Lin Ti and he bowed on his knees. Then he hurried back to the Chi Ching Co Choy Cha's home and shoved the potion into Chi Ching Co Choy Cha's mouth.

Suddenly, Chi Ching Co Choy Cha said, "Mmmmm, that's does taste good. Thanks a lot, Ching Tai Chi Chi Suey Lin Ti."

"You're back to your regular self again, Chi Ching Co Choy Cha."

Chi Ching Co Choy Cha said, "What are you talking about?"

Then Ching Tai Chi Chi Suey Lin Ti explained everything that had happened to him. Chi Ching Co Choy Cha apologized about the bird's nest and for being nasty.

Then they went to the river to swim in the clean blue water.
