The Cat and the Dragon

by Jacquelyn

Long ago, there was a man. He was old and well respected. He lived in a house in the middle of a garden. There were lots of bushes and flowers in the garden surounding the man's house. It was a small house, just the right size for the man and his cat. In front of the house, there was a river, and on each side, there were bamboo trees. Most of the time, Cat was by the man's side, so Cat became very wise following the man because she would learn from him.

One day, the man decided to go for a walk. Cat was tired so she decided to stay home. After the man left, Cat heard splashing in the river in front of the house. Cat looked out the window and was surprised to find a baby dragon splashing in the river. Cat was lonely, so she went outside to play with the dragon. Dragon was small and had green scales covering her body. Her feet and wings were brown. She couldn't fly because her wings were very small and wouldn't hold her up. Dragon was startled at first by Cat, but after a while they became good friends.

When Dragon's mother came to pick Baby Dragon up, she got mad because Baby Dragon was playing with a strange animal she didn't know. Mother Dragon was worried so she quickly took Baby Dragon home. Mother didn't know Cat and Dragon were friends so she made up a plan to scare Cat away.

The next day the man went for his usual walk. Cat wanted to stay home again. When the man left, Cat went to the river to play with Baby Dragon, but before she got there, Mother Dragon jumped out and tried to scratch Cat with her claws. Cat was very wise, but the Mother Dragon was so big and strong that it was hard for Cat to escape. Just before Mother Dragon was about to hurt Cat, Cat thought of a plan. She could climb the tree right next to her and Mother Dragon wouldn't be able to reach her.

The plan worked and Cat was safe and also lucky that Mother Dragon couldn't fly. Mother Dragon tried to get Cat, but she heard footsteps coming so she rushed to her cave.

When the man and the cat were safely at home. Cat told the man how she used what he told her, wisdom is better than weapons of war, to defeat the Mother Dragon.
