The Ancient Forest in Despair

by Kira

The roar of the chainsaws

clearcut the ancient forest

500 years old

300 foot giants cry as they crash to the ground

knowing that the loggers must live

Forests are in despair for themselves and their kind

Wailing as 60,000 acres of it is cut a year

In 1950 we were told, " The forest is almost gone."

yet they still clearcut

Not thinking about what would happen

Tree farms sprout but have diseases

the loggers have already disturbed the ecosystem,

there is nothing they can do

Eventually the tree farms are cut down too

The Northern Spotted Owl screeches,

" Hoo Hoo, the forest is in trouble, Hoo Hoo."

It knows much more than many of us do

It knows that we need to save the forest

But we ignore it still

The animals listen and are forced to move

onto smaller grounds

as their habitat is cut down

We need the rainforest

its good air and food and medicine

Some people don't realize this

but with every chop of the axe

we are cutting down our future
