Little Rock, Arkansas

by Lisle

Back in Little Rock,Arkansas,

there was still segregation.

But three boys and six girls,

would go and show the nation.

They stood and they waited,

to go into Central High,

until the racists at the door,

would let them by.

The students showed courage and bravery

having come a long way from slavery.

The racists were mad and protested hard

'til President Eisenhower called the National Guard.

The nation watched

in disbelief.

But as they entered,

sighed relief.

What started in Arkansas

with less segregation,

led to a nation

of more integration.
