Little Foot and the Thunderstorm
By Emily

This story takes place in a village called White Stone where the Abenaki Tribe lives. The Abenaki Tribe is a very respected and well known tribe.

All of the people in this tribe were very kind and lived by their rules, except one man named, Little Foot.
Little Foot lived to hunt. He especially liked to hunt fish, bear, moose and deer. He loved the outdoors. When he would walk back to his lodge every day after hunting, he would see the woman and children of White Stone planting crops, for it was harvest season. Little Foot always hunted for more food than he needed.

Most of the hunters of the tribe were sick and there was not enough food for everyone. Every night people would come around to ask for food and every night he would refuse to give them any. Sometime the Abenaki. Tribe would have a great feast but Little Foot wouldn't attend.
Talbodack, the creator, became very angry with him and thought of a plan. The next time Little Foot goes hunting, he will make a huge racket and send down bolts of fire so he can't catch anything. Soon he will starve to death.

So, that afternoon, he grabbed his bow and arrow and dragged his (hand made) wooden canoe out to the river. When he saw a deer, there was a huge bang! This bang scared the deer away. (Every hunter knows that you have to be completely silent to hunt).

Little Root went on hunting. When he saw a rabbit he got out a bow and arrow and just as he was about to kill the rabbit he heard a big bang again but he still went on hunting. Across the river he saw a pregnant deer. He ignored the fact that you aren't allowed to kill pregnant deer and got ready to kill it anyway.

As usual, the big bang came. Finally, Little Foot realized that whenever he would try to kill an animal there would be a big bang. So, Little Foot next tried to hunt fish, but this time a pouring down rain started.

So, the next time you hear the loud sounds of a thunderstorm and see the pouring rain, remember it's there to remind you of this very story.
