The Chipmunk And The Sun

By Meera

One day in a deep dark forest, there was a village. People lived in
lodges and in this village, they had the lodges placed in circles. In the
village there were many wise men but there was one very wise man who could talk to animals. His name was Arrkameddies. When people needed advice they would come to him and whatever he told the person, would be very useful to them in one way or another. This was very long ago and there wasn't much light then because the orbit of one planet was in between the Earth and something called the Sun which gave heat and light.

One day Arrkameddies was working in the forest and he heard some animals murmuring about who should be king and who should be the boss of the forest. Arrkameddies explained to them that there was a problem with the Earth. The problem was that the Earth needed more light and that the Earth could have more light if something called a planet was turned and put back into its regular position. The animals decided that they would have a contest to see which animal could throw the stone and turn the planet sideways. They would have the contest the next sun so they could choose the king of the forest.

The next sun, the most important animals of the forest were about to throw.
"First up is Deer, then Turtle, then Bear," said the squirrel who was the
announcer. The Deer picked up it's stone and threw it but it hardly went 400 paces in the air. He had thrown the stone with the huge antlers on his head. The stone came down and nearly crushed the poor little squirrel. The squirrel said "Hey that wasn't nice."Then it was Turtle's turn. Now Turtle has a huge stone that he hollowed out himself so that the stone could be thrown more easily He hauled the stone onto his back and he threw it about 1000 paces away from the planet.Bear was the strongest and the biggest out of them all. He has the heaviest stone. He took the stone and he lifted it simply with his paw and threw it VERY CLOSE to the planet. The stone landed with a huge THUD!Now everyone who thought they would have a shot at throwing the stone would be able to go. The animals were moose, rabbit, and chipmunk.
The moose threw the stone with his antlers swell and he got the stone about 9000 paces into the air and he was very upset. He caught the stone and threw it at the ground and then he was very grumpy.Rabbits turn was next and he threw the stone 70000 paces which was a lot for a small Rabbit like him.

The Chipmunk was up next and she was very small. She used here little paws to lift the stone. The stone was so heavy for her but she threw it anyway. The stone was spinning and spinning. Chipmunk's eyes were closed. Everyone gasped at how a tiny animal like her could throw much farther than a large animal like the bear. It spun and touched the planet enough so that it managed to turn the planet sideways. Everyone cheered including the other animals who competed.

Bear was very upset, so kind hearted Chipmunk said to him "If you promise
never to hurt any living being in any way, I will let you be 'Vice King' and
you wont have to be bored in the forest all by yourself."Bear promised and he was very happy. Arrkameddies explained to the animals that the planets name was Uranus and the planet's orbit somehow came between the Sun and the Earth.
