Why There's a Sun in the Sky

by Scott S.

Once there was a time when the world was dark and you couldn't wander very far from a fire or you would get lost in the darkness of the woods.

One night Little Bear lay in his wigwam thinking about what he would hunt with his bow and arrows the next day. He was also thinking about what tricks he would play on his fellow neighbors. Suogiri was Iroquois god who watches to see if people are being nice to each other. Suogiri watched Little Bear shaking his head. Little Bear was always being mean to people.

Suogiri lived on a dark ball in the sky.

The next day Little Bear sneaked out of his wigwam with a fake snake in his hand. The snake had been carved from the wood of a tree. He snuck into his neighbor's wigwam and put the snake down on the floor and went back to bed. He woke up to the sound of someone screaming. Little Bear couldn't help laughing.

Sougiri was not laughing. He was angry.

The next day Little Bear played a very nasty trick on the town. He took some of the towns food and buried it. The town had no food and they had to go hunt again which was hard because it was dark.

Suogiri was burning red with anger.

The day after, Little Bear took his bow and arrows and went through the woods but didn't go far because it was dark. He saw a deer and creeped nearer to it. He pulled back his bow and let go of the string. The arrow hit the deer and it fell to the ground. Little Bear just left it there to rot. He didn't even use it for food.

Suogiri was so mad he was on fire and he lite the whole planet on fire also.

That planet is still on fire and is now called the sun.
