The fourth grade have had a wonderful year so far participating in games, socializing, learning skills and having fun. The units that they have accomplished so far this year are: During our swimming unit, the children had a wonderful time in the water with Mr. “Bonehead” Shoulberg. They enjoyed their six weeks in the pool refining their strokes, improving their endurance, playing games and having fun, especially during Friday free swims. The improvement in the water the children made from the first day of class until the last was remarkable.
- Swimming
- Basketball
- Tumbling
- Dance
- Volleyball
Ms. Thomas’ class came out of the pool to head to the gym to learn all about Basketball. We studied the history of Basketball and Dr. James Neismeth. The children worked on defensive skills, team defense, dribbling, passing, offensive moves, picks, team defense and team offense.
The children worked beautifully together during our tumbling unit. They worked to their ability and understood the importance of spotting and caring for their classmates. At the end of this unit the children had the opportunity to put on a tumbling routine by themselves or with a partner.
We then jumped into our dance unit. The children had some fancy foot work. They did dances ranging from the “Macarena” to “The German Chicken Dance” to the seventies flashback of “Disco”. At the end of the unit if the children did not perform a tumbling routine they performed a dance with partners or by themselves.
We are currently full force into our volleyball unit. The children have been working on bumping, setting and serving. They are starting to understand the strategies of volleyball. They have enjoyed playing Jail Bird, Neucome and Neucome with a parachute covering the net.
