The fifth grade class has been off to a great year. They have enjoyed working with new and old friends in all of our units. The students started out the school year with a field hockey unit. Once they became used to the fact that they could only use one side of the stick, they quickly realized how similar field hockey is to roller hockey, ice hockey and street hockey. They became aware of the history of field hockey and that both men and women play the sport all over the world. It was amazing to watch the improvement of their stick skills from
the beginning of the unit until the end of the unit. The next unit the children learned and participated in was our soccer unit. They did many activities in groups and partners to improve their skills and game awareness.
The children just completed their swim unit with Mr. "Bonehead" Shoulberg. They spent time in the pool working on their strokes and playing games in the water. Every Friday the children have a free swim. During this time they are able to swing off ropes into the pool, use the diving board, play ball games and swim, swim, swim!!!!
