This is an overview of our students' physical education class at Germantown Academy.

We start the school year with many different cooperative games. We do this so we can observe movement but more importantly to have the children work together to reach a common goal in a fun, positive manner.

The primary children have physical education class four times a week. The class is broken up into four different sections:

During the warm up the students do different locomotor movements such as walking, jogging, running, sprinting, galloping and hopping. They are also asked to demonstrate strengthening exercises such as seal walks and crunches. After the student does these locomotor movements and strengthening activities they are asked to stretch.

The next section is the activity. Our units change on a three week period. The activities that we focus on are as follows: ball skills, cooperative games, dance, jumping obstacle course, parachute, scooters, swimming and tumbling. We have specific goals and objectives for each grade.

The third section is the processing. This is where we discuss with the children the different body parts they used for the activity and the skills in which they worked to improve. We feel that it is important for the children to understand all the aspects of physical education.

The last section is the cool down. This is a time where the students do relaxing activities in order to calm their body and their energy down before going back to the classroom. The cool downs that we do work on self control, listening and cooperation.

The Goals for Our Students Are As Follows:
