Hi. My name is Ed and I'm a crayfish. Today was one of those days when you have an unexpected adventure. Well, it was a beautiful Fall day. I could tell because every morning I look up out of the water to see what the weather is like. The sun was filtering through the water on my back, but I had no idea that today would hold a great adventure for me.I got a litle hungry so I decided to get some breakfast. I headed out towards the middle of the creek becuase that's where most "sunnies" (my breakfast) live. As I reached the center of the creek, I heard a sudden pounding noise. I stopped in my tracks and looked around. The noise suddenly stopped and I continued to search for breakfast.
A few minutes later, I saw something glimmering in the sun-the scales of a sunfish. I curled back my tail ready to attack. Just at the right time, I struck, but the sunny noticed me and swam away. Just then, I heard the pounding noise again, and this time, it got louder, and right before my eyes stood a giant creature submerged in the water. It stopped in front of me. I didn't think it saw me because I didn't see any eyes on it. And then I noticed a long thick tanish rod leading out of the water. The creature looked as if it was going to attack me, so out of self defense, I snapped at it with my claws. I heard a howling noise and then more pounding. Suddenly, a white thing picked me up and out of the water. Then I noticed that the creature I saw was only a leg. Hands gently lifted me into a bowl of water and a few minutes later, I was placed back into the creek. My unexpected adventure taught me that lots of creatures care for others.

Hi. I'm Sunny the Sunfish. I eat insects and bugs. I love to play tag with the catfish and crayfish. My favorite part of the day is when the sun goes down. It is so pretty. And so am I. I am about 3 inches long. I have colors on me like a rainbow . I don't know why I am called a sunfish but it might be because I am partly yellow. I live in the Wissahickon Creek by GA. I love living their under the rocks and I love playing in muddy water. Sometims the dragonfly nymphs get a little annoying because there are so many of them. And sometimes the crayfish are mean and pinch me with their claws. Even with these problems, I love living by GA because the kids are so nice. When they catch me, they always yell, "I got a sunfish! Yipee Yipee!" And they never hurt me and always put me back, except when I get to stay with Mr. Newberger for awhile.

A hundred yards from the GA bridge, there is a rock. Beneath the rock is a restaurant. The coolest catfish can be found there. The current fashion is long whiskers brushed back and slimy protection jackets. This month's dinner specialty is spotted algae with your choice ofwater bugs.

I am a catfish. I have long whiskers that have taste buds on them. They are around my mouth and they help me find food in muddy areas. I live on the bottom of the dark creek. I have sharp fins. If somebody tries to eat me, I stick them with my sharp fins. I protect myself.

I am a damselfly nymph in the Wissahickon Creek. In order for me to be an adult, I have to shed my exoskeleton many times. The last time I shed my exoskeleton, I will get wings and become an adult. In the beginning, my mommy laid one egg at a time. I was the third egg to be laid. I am having lunch soon and I am going to catch my favorite mosquito larva.

Hi. I'm a black-nosed dace. I live in a creek near GA. I am a minnow. I like to hide under big rocks so crayfish don't eat me. I like to eat little bugs and worms. Being a black-nosed dace is fun. Good-bye.

I am a crayfish. Hiding under rocks is what I do best. My favorite kind of food is plants. I like to hunt other animals with my claws. Sometimes I swim around in the creek to find other friendly crayfish.

I am a water strider staying on top of the water, looking at fish and crayfish. We play "Jump Far," a game to see who can jump the farthest. It is fun.
