Submission FAQs

How do I submit my reaction?

Send an e-mail to Mrs. Owens
superreaders@germantownacademy.org

In the subject line put your first name, last initial, graduation year and the number of your book review.
For example, Scott L. '07's 5th review will read
Scott L.'07 #5 in the subject line.

In the body of the e-mail message include

Your name
Book name
Book author
Brief Reaction

What is the last thing I should do before I send the e-mail?

Be sure to proofread your reaction for errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Remember that book reviews are always in the present tense - look through the review to see if you maintained tense.

Read your submission aloud to make sure that it makes sense.

How will I know if my review has been posted?

Mrs. Owens will send you a return e-mail to let you know when your review is posted.  The return message will have Online ASO as part of the subject line.  She will also include a short note.
-OR-
You may need to make corrections.
The return message will have Edit ASO as part of the subject line.   If you need to edit further she will make suggestions or ask questions.  Mrs. Owens will come over to 5th grade if you would like to work together on a reaction.  Revision is an important part of publication.

Once posted, you will find your book listed and linked on your personal Super Readers index page.

What if I don't have e-mail or I am having trouble with my e-mail or you are having trouble with your e-mail?

Please submit a paper copy or drop off a disc.  This project is about reading not about technology!!! Technology is the tool that makes things flow more easily.  If the e-mail is not working for you we will be happy to find another method.  We want your work to be included.

Why do you use e-mail?

Some years we get over 500 submissions, and all too often they all come pouring in at the last minute.  In the beginning we accepted ALL handwritten copies.   It was awful.   We had to edit all these paper submissions and then type them in. Just dreadful.  We couldn't read people's writing.  Really pitiful.  Reviews weren't entered until mid-summer.  Truly tragic. You get the point.  E-mail entries make it possible to function and allow our students to get timely feedback and validation.  What does that mean?  It means that you get to see your stuff while you're still young and Mrs. Grant and Mrs. Owens don't get any more gray hairs than they already have.

Can anyone contribute to the Super Reader database?

You have to be a Germantown Academy 5th grade student to enter a review on the Super Reader Web Site.  Although we really appreciate other students willingness to share their work, we do not have the staff to keep up with the volume of material.

What if I have any questions?  What if I've submitted a review and haven't heard any feedback?

You can stop by Mrs. Grant's office on the 5th grade floor or e-mail Mrs. Owens.  Sometimes reviews get lost in the e-mail exchange. We will be happy to follow up.

Remember:
The more children read, the better they will read;
the better they read, the more they will want to read.
It's a wonderful cycle!
