Title:  Attack of the Deranged Mutant Killer Monster Snow Goons: A Calvin and Hobbes Collection
Series:  Calvin and Hobbes
Author:  Bill Waterson
Reviewer:  Joe G.  '11

This is a hysterical book of "Calvin and Hobbes" comic strips, featuring "Snow Goons," Preparing for  Christmas, and Adventures at School. In  this book, a whole section of comics is set in the wintertime.  In one series, Calvin has a grim encounter with "snow goons," (evil, hideous, mutated snowmen that clone themselves and attack Calvin). Calvin tries to kill the snow goons, but his parents don't approve of his being outside at midnight, spraying the snow goons with water from a garden hose.

In another part of the book, Calvin is getting ready for Christmas by trying to be really good. He can't resist chucking a few snowballs at his neighbor, Susie.  He writes a really long letter to Santa, trying to convince him that he has been good all year.  Then he actually tries to get to the North Pole on his sled, but when he gets whacked in the head with a snowball from Susie, he decides to go back home.

Finally, no Calvin and Hobbes book would be complete without reading about his adventures at school. His teacher, Miss Wormwood, keeps sending Calvin to the principal because he daydreams in class.  Calvin  always saves his homework for the last minute, then rushes and gets in trouble for doing a messy job.

As always, Hobbes, Calvin's stuffed tiger is with him through every adventure.  Not everyone in the book sees Hobbes the same way Calvin does. They all have their own thoughts and opinions of Hobbes. To Calvin, Hobbes is his best friend, even when he pounces on Calvin when he comes home from school.

If you've never read any "Calvin and Hobbes," you're really missing a lot. This is a great book, whether you've read "Calvin and Hobbes" or not. It is probably best for readers in 4th grade and above, so you can understand all the jokes. This book  is clever and funny, and  you can read it over and over again.
