"As long as there is life, there is hope," says Riva's mother. In 1945,
Riva lives in Lodz, Poland. She was born into a Jewish family, and lives
in a ghetto with her mother and three brothers. Riva's father died when
she was five of typhus disease. One day as the Nazis scream, "Jews out!
Jews out!" at Riva's ghetto, her mother is taken away to a concentration
camp. Soon Riva and her brothers also get sent to Auschwitz, a
concentration camp.
At Auschwitz, Riva spends her time working. She
builds trenches, and cleans bathrooms. Riva doesn't see her mother at
the concentration camp.
Will Riva live through
these hard times? The only way to find out is by reading the book!
