| The Battle for the Castle is a
sequel to the author’s The Castle in the Attic. William, the main character,
will soon turn twelve, and his best friend, Jason, is changing. Jason has grown taller,
and William hasn’t grown at all. Jason just can’t wait to jump the trains. But
then William takes Jason back to the Middle Ages using a special token belonging to the
silver knight. There they find danger lurking everywhere- bones floating in the river, a
man’s warning, and a chant from a woman who has mysteriously died. Then, a plague of
rats come out of the water, and with them comes out a leader, bigger than any rat or
human. They start killing humans and animals. With William’s courage and wit, the
kingdom is saved; and William has shown Jason what true courage is all about. Fall 2000 |
