| Sixteen-year-old Beauty hates her
nickname. Her real name is Honour. Her two older sisters, Grace and Hope, are the
most beautiful girls in the land. Beauty is poor because her father loses all his
ships in a storm. One of them has Grace's future husband, Robbie, on it. Now, six
years later, Hope is married and has two children. Beauty is off to the Beast's
castle. Beast is very kind to her and gives her whatever she wants. She is
also very happy because there are no mirrors in the castle for her to see herself.
One time, while gazing in Beast's magical mirror, she asks if she can see what happens to
Robbie. She sees a battered ship that has just pulled into the harbor and a tired,
but still happy, Robbie! Beast lets her go back to her family for a few days and she
tells Grace. Grace is so happy! Beauty stays longer than she is supposed to and
comes back to find Beast dying. She tells him that she loves him and he turns into a
human! Later she looks in a mirror and she has grown into her looks and become
beautiful. Beauty, Beast, Grace, Robbie, and two horses all have a wedding
together. I really like this book. It has a good twist that Beauty isn't
pretty in the beginning. Spring 2002 |
