Because of Winn-Dixie is about a girl named
India Opal Buloni, whose mother left her and her father when she was
very young. One day at the grocery store, India finds a dog and brings
him home. Though India's daddy, the Preacher, says she doesn't need a
dog, he lets Winn-Dixie (the dog) stay. Winn-Dixie helps India make new
friends and get along better with people. But one day, during a
thunderstorm, Winn-Dixie mysteriously disappears. Will India ever find
him? Read this book to find out.

India Opal Buloni is a girl who finds a dog in a 'Winn-Dixie.' She
takes her dog everywhere she goes and meets a lot of people in her new
town. She makes a lot of new friends and has a lot of fun with her new
dog.
I would recommend this book to people who like dogs
and just a good book.

I read a book about a
girl named Opal and her dog, Winn Dixie. Opal and her father, the
preacher, have just moved from Watley, Florida to Naomi, Florida.
One day while Opal is at the grocery store a stray dog is running around
loose. Opal saves the dog from going to the pound. On the way home
Opal and Winn Dixie get aquatinted and Opal discovers that Winn Dixie is
also an Orphan. She tells the dog that her mother left her when she was
little. A strong friendship grows between them and together they
make many new friends. Opal realizes how much she loves Winn Dixie when
he mysteriously disappears in a thunderstorm. This book made me feel so
sad that I really cried.

The book I read is Because of Winn-Dixie. It
is about a girl named India Opal Buloni. This book has an unusual
beginning: it all starts when her father wants her to go to
the grocery store to get something. But she comes back with a
dog! If you want to find out what happens next read this book.

I think this book is a sad book because Opal loses
her mother and she is kind of lonely throughout the book and she
does not have a lot of friends and she never gets to really know more
about her mother. Then when she finds this dog it gives her a friend and
I think that it gave her more courage to stand up to her bullies and to
stand up to her dad.I would recommend this
book to people who like to cry because this made me upset.

| Reviewer: Matthew P. '10 Winn-Dixie is a dog named after the grocery stores in the South.
India Opal Buloni is a girl who finds the dog and takes him home. India's
father is a preacher at Open Arms Baptist Church in Naomi, Florida. There are so
many, and I mean so many, funny things that happen in this book. Winn-Dixie is a
special dog because he smiles at people, but he has a really bad fear of thunderstorms and
he can't stand being left alone. At the end of the book Opal has a party with all of
her new friends. It starts to rain and thunde, but Opal is so concerned about the
sandwiches getting wet that she forgets about Winn-Dixie. When she finally
remembers, Winn-Dixie has disappeared. Will she find him? Read the book to
find out.

Karen M. '09 A little girl named India Opal (who goes by Opal) is just three years old
when her mother leaves. She is left with her dad who is a priest.
Opal often thinks about her mother and feels like she has a hole in her heart where her
mother should be. She finds a dog and names him Winn-Dixie. He is a special dog who
starts to fill the hole in her heart when he arrives. Opal becomes friends with an
older woman who is a librarian, loves to tell stories, and needs a friend, too.
Everyone is scared of another older woman that Opal befriends, except Opal. She also meets
two young boys her age and two young girls. She learns something new about all these
people. She discovers everybody is not perfect and that many people who are bad turn
out to be great. Along the way she finds more and more information about her mother. This
is a great book. I could never put it down. It took me one and a half days to read it. I
recommend it to anyone who likes adventure, sorrow, and dogs.
