Title:  Black Hawk Down:  A Story of Modern War
Author:  Mark Bowden
Reviewer:  Mike B. '11

Because Somalia is having a big famine, America comes over to feed the people who are starving and to get rid of President Aidid.  He is the President of Somalia and is really a dictator who does not like his people and is a cause of the famine.  President Aidid says that the Americans are bad since they are trying to get rid of him.  The Somalian people stop taking the American food because they think that the food is going to kill them.  They are told that by President Aidid.

The war starts when someone kills an American soldier.  Americans start to bomb hotels where they think that President Aidid may be hiding. The six black hawk helicopters go in to drop soldiers to breach one of the hotels and find President Aidid. They stay too long and when they try to leave, four helicopters are lost because of  a Somalian soldier with a grenade launcher.  On the ground, the

American pilots get into Humvees to go to an abandoned soccer arena.  You should read the book to find out what happens next.

I liked this book because it was filled with action and it explained the story of the war with Somalia.  People who are interested in American history and war should read this book.
