Cages is about a young 9th grader named Kit Hathaway and the problems she is dealing with.  Kit steals a beautiful gold bracelet from a store in the mall.  Kit never means to steal, but she wants the bracelet badly after not getting the part she wants in the school play.  She also steals because of the problems at home.  After stealing, Kit has to work in a humane society for dogs.  Kit really likes a dog in the humane society named Lady.  Kit tries to adopt this dog or find it a home.

I feel this book is very well written and the author's writing style makes you want to keep reading.  There also is a lesson in this story "Never do anything you might regret later."

If I were a Newbery Honor judge this book would receive one!!!
