The Dark Is Rising is the second in a series called The Dark Is Rising. The book is about a boy named Will Stanton. On his 11th birthday he finds out that he is the last of the Old Ones or, the Light, an ancient race dedicated to fighting the Dark. Will's job is to collect the 6 Signs which will aid the Light in defeating the Dark. On this journey through Time, Will meets several people whose names are Merriman, the Lady, and John Smith.
