This is a really touching story about a young girl named Dennie, who is in the seventh grade. Dennie is short for, Wilmadeene. Her mother wants her to be a model, but Deenie's not so sure. When Deenie finds out she has scoliosis, and has to wear a brace for four years those modeling dreams are put on hold. Will Deenie ever survive this humiliation of having to wear a brace? Are Janet and Midge good enough friends to help her make it through?

Deenie is about a mother who wants her daughter to become a model and have her pictures all over the magazines. When Deenie tries out to be a cheerleader, her gym teacher notices that her back is crooked. She goes to a doctor and finds out that she has scoliosis, which means a curvature of the spine. He says she will have to wear a brace all of the time. Will her friends and the boys think she's weird with a brace? Read the book to find out what happens.

Deenie, a 13 year old girl, thinks her life is over when she sees the brace she has to wear from her waist to her neck. Suddenly, beautiful Deenie becomes "The Walking Cage". No wonder so many modeling agencies reject her because her posture isn’t right. You see, Deenie has scoliosis. Now she has to wear this ugly metal brace. On top of all that, her mother thinks that getting scoliosis was Deenie’s fault. Will Deenie ever get used to wearing the brace?

I liked this book a lot. It is very realistic. Also, it tells what it is like to have scoliosis. This book shows that life is not always perfect. I recommend Deenie to all girls.
