Rupert is a junior magid. Magids are humans that solve intergalactic problems.  When  Rupert Venables gets tangled in a particularly strange and difficult intergalactic misfortune only Rupert and a lady named Maree Mallory can solve the unfortunate event.

In the weird multi-universe our author has created there are many worlds. The worlds are in a twisting shape. There are two ways you can travel through the multi-universe. One way to travel is to travel naywards [up] the other is ayewards [Down].

Rupert has to look over earth and the Koryfonic Empire, a world full of misfortune usually ruled by an evil dictator who thinks, and is right about his assumption, that he rules the world. On earth Rupert’s sponsor Stan, a fellow magid is dead but helps Rupert in his exhausting search to find a suitable replacement for Stan
.
While Rupert is finding a replacement for Stan he also has to deal with a bloody civil war that could spell the end of the Koryfonic Empire. Rupert also has to deal with a powerful and evil wizard that worships a bush deity of amazing power.

While all of this occurs Maree's family is strongly opposed to Rupert-under the wrong assumption Rupert is a friend of Maree's. Even the desperate Maree regards Rupert as a real pill. Rupert still must try his best to save the Koryfonic Empire and the world

As some additional and interesting information, there is a magical council in the book [Deep Secret] that magids like Rupert like to refer to as the people upstairs. They are the group that councils the magids on what to do. They also decide what happens to magids after they die. So after a little negotiating Stan’s spirit is allowed to come to Earth and make suggestions to Rupert. There is a catch; he can only go to certain areas for certain periods of time.

Now to top off everything else Rupert must do all of the above in only the time it takes for a few of the magical council to decide its time for Stan to die. Rupert needs to keep his act together but can he? Will Rupert be able to save the Earth? Will he succeed in saving the Koryfonic Empire, or will he spell the end of the Empire altogether? Can he do it in time? Will he succeed in finding a magid to follow in the footsteps of Stan his fellow magid? All these questions and more are answered in the book: Deep Secret.

Conclusion
(Reviewers own reflections on the book: Deep Secret)

If you like a mix of adventurousness, fiction, and magic  in novels, I advise Deep Secret as your next read. I personally like this book because the beginning isn’t boring like some modern magical fictional books are. I also like the book Deep Secret because the unpredictability of the book makes you keep reading it. I personally assure you you’ll be glad you read Deep Secret. The author’s name is Diana Wynn Jones.

This book is about a magid named Rupert Venables. Magids are sent by important members from the "Upper Room" to keep the world in order. Rupbert is only a junior magid but he has a lot of work to do.

The book starts when his friend Stan dies and the emperor of Koryfos, a country in another world, is assassinated. Rupert must find a replacement for Stan and find out who the heirs of the emperor are. To make matters worse, it is illegal in Koryfos to know if you are one of the emperor’s children.

Stan argues with members of the "Upper Room" and they allow him to come back as a sort of phantom to help Rupert with choosing another magid. Stan can talk and listen but he can not really move many things and nobody can see him.

Rupert decides to bring all the candidates for being a magid to one place. He will bring them all together by tweaking their fatelines. Rupert has already given up on an English lady named Maree Mallory because she did a crazy dance for luck with her friend and held up traffic. Rupert decides  not to bring Maree to the spot he chose for the other candidates to meet.

Rupert decides on a convention in a Wantchester. Wantchester is a node of power which he can use to bring them together. The convention is on science fiction.

To Rupert's surprise, and to Maree's, they both meet at the convention. Maree does not like Rupert just as much as Rupbert dislikes Maree. Also to their surprise the convention turns out to be much more odd and confusing than they had thought.

The book starts to get really exciting when Maree and her cousin Nick accidentally follow Rupert when he is magically traveling to another world. The world Rupert is going to is where his brother Will lives. Will is also a magid but he lives in a world called Thule . Will tells Maree and Nick about magids and what they do.

Rupert has also finds a computer that has information about the emperor’s heirs. He copies the computer contents to two disks. Rupert works on the second disk because the first disk melts. He gets the second disk to say that someone called Knarros will supply the names of the heirs. Rupert turns down many false Knarrosses until they find a centaur named Knarros in the empire.

When Rupert is in the other world he discovers that Maree has had half of herself stripped away. Maree must walk a very cool and dangerous trail to the tower of Babylon . As you read about Babylon you will discover castle gardens hanging in the air, and a very mysterious bridge guardian.

What makes this story so good is that it combines all three characters points of view in an awesome way to tell an exciting story.
