| A long time ago an evil witch
named Civet casts a spell on the Sea of the Dragons, steals the sea, and traps it in a
small pebble. When the dragon princess, Shimmer, returns from her journey, she finds
her clan and her sea have gone. Many of the dragons have to become human peasants,
but some try to fight Civet and they all lose their lives. Shimmer learns from being a human peasant that all humans are mean, selfish,
and disrespectful. One day Shimmer stumbles upon a boy named Thorn who cares for
Shimmer and treats her with kindness. Thorn is treated badly by the people of the
village and Shimmer feels unhappy about this. Although dragons and humans should not
mix, Shimmer has a liking for the boy and helps Thorn to escape. When they reach
safe ground, Thorn will not leave Shimmer. Shimmer does not want to bring the boy
along since she wants to kill Civet and does not want Thorn to die. But Shimmer does
bring him and the two start liking one another's company. When they finally reach
Civet's cave, the two go in together, but will they kill Civet? Or will Civet kill
them? Read the book to find out!
I really enjoyed this book. It is funny and sad at
the same time. It is funny when Thorn will not leave Shimmer and the two of them get
into a hilarious fight with words. The sad part though is when Shimmer is kicked out
of her clan for stealing something that her mother has promised her. It is also very
sad when Civet has been forcefully married to the sea god and nobody in her family thinks
of her again after she vanishes into the depths of the sea. I hope you get a chance to
read this excellent book!
