This book is a retelling of Toads and
Diamonds. Rosella is always ordered around by her mother and sister.
One day while Rosella is fetching some water, she sees an old lady trying to get
some water and decides to help her. The old lady is magical and rewards her by
giving her a gift. Now every time Rosella says something, gems come out of her
mouth. Rosella's greedy sister, Myrtle, wants the same gift. So she goes
to fetch some water, but the old lady isn't there. A knight is there
instead. Myrtle, being her rude, greedy self, is rude to the
knight. The knight is really the old lady and gives Myrtle an awful gift. Now
every time Myrtle talks a bug or snake comes out of her mouth.
One day while Rosella is working in the garden, the prince
sees her and the gems and decides to marry her. Rosella is very miserable because
all the prince sees in her is gems. How will she get out of this?
Myrtle is having a great time because she can get anything she wants from anyone.
She just threatens to let bugs go in the person's store. Will the old lady fix this
all up? You'll have to read the book to find
out.
