Flip -Flop Girl is about a 4th grader named Lavinia (Vinnie) Matthews. Vinnie needs a real lifesaver, a real friend, someone who can help her. Vinnie's father dies, and she must move to her grandmother's house with her mom and brother. After Vinnie's father dies, her brother, Mason, stops talking. Vinnie must take care of Mason and deal with her mother and grandmother who favor Mason and pay more attention to him. Vinnie and Mason are forced to go to an old, worn down school called Gertrude B. Spitzer School. At Gertrude B. Spitzer School, Vinnie falls in love with her teacher. Vinnie's teacher makes her feel special. He gives her red hairclips and takes her for a ride in his red sports car to help find Mason. Vinnie soon finds out that her teacher is getting married! Vinnie becomes mad and realizes that her teacher tries to make everyone feel special, but all along the one special person is not anyone in the class. Vinnie becomes more desperate for a friend. Yet, there is one mysterious girl who wears flip-flops to school everyday. She plays hopscotch with herself at recess and she never talks. Because of rumors Vinnie does not want to become friends with the flip-flop girl. Rumor has it that her father murdered her mother and that she is hiding from the police. Read the book to find out the truth about the Flip-Flop Girl and to learn if Mason ever speaks again! How will Vinnie solve her problems with her mother and grandmother. Will she be able to move back home!

I highly recommend this book. It is a quick read, but the story is still great. You feel a lot of the character's emotions as you read this book, nothing good ever happens to Vinnie, her life is miserable.

The story I read is about a girl named Vinnie Matthews. She feels that she needs a real life saver. Her father died and it is really tough trying to take care of her brother and still be living with her grandmother.

One day she meets the friend who could be that life saver she needed; the "flipper girl". Vinnie tries to put the bad rumors about the new friend’s past behind her. Who is this girl? What will end up happening? To find out, read this book.

I think this was a good and moving book, but some parts were just plain boring. The author just kept blabbing on about nothing.
