| FYEO is a book of Lucy K.
Keane's notebook entries, directed to her substitute teacher, Mr. Moffat, whom she thinks
is THE BEST TEACHER EVER. The book
also includes some entries for Andy Cooper, the bain of Lucy's
existence. FYEO starts out on Lucy's first fresh, clean notebook
page and ends with a notebook full of wonderfully written memories of her four or so weeks
with an incredible teacher, Mr. Moffat. Lucy
has two bains of her existence: her single mother and her trouble-making, extremely
annoying, spying, immature neighbor and classmate-- Andy
Cooper. Lucy's best friend, in the beginning, is Beatrice,
but this changes very soon after the first enjoyable page you
read. Beatrice gets new best friends and becomes more mature and
self conscious like her older sister, Rose. She leaves poor Lucy alone, but if you read
the book you will find out who becomes Lucy's new best friend.
Her mother and father are divorced, her dad remarries, and
her family has some problems with money, so Lucy is forced to sleep on a small cot in the
dining room of her mother's small LA apartment. Mr. Moffat introduces
Lucy's class to poetry. Lucy develops a skill for it and is always interested. But still,
Andy continues to be as tedious as ever. If you want to find out who
Lucy's new best friend is, how Lucy copes with Andy Cooper, and what she does when the
wonderful sub, Mr. Moffat, goes away, read For Your Eyes Only. You won't
regret it!
I like FYEO because of the writer's style. To
me, a difference is always welcome. I also love the poems. I think they really add to
the book and when Lucy writes her poems in the notebook, they are very graphic and
inspiring. I even wrote a poem after I read this book! I recommend this book to anyone
because it is really a book most kids could relate to. If you enjoy little
illustrations tucked in once in a while (like me), that is also a plus.
