Mckinley, the head dog of Steamboat Springs, is owned by Jack, his "human pup." He discovers that an abused pack member, Duchess, runs away. She goes off with Lupin, a wolf that wants dogs to join her pack because it is disappearing. A dog named Redburn tries to track Duchess and Lupin. Since humans feed him and give him shelter, he will do anything they tell him to do. So he searches for Lupin and Duchess. Humans shoot Lupin and wound her. The owner of Duchess takes her back home. When Duchess escapes a second time and Lupin is well, Redburn calls a pack meeting to make him pack leader. Read the rest to find out what happens!
I chose this book because I like to read books about animals and I like the author, Avi. I couldn't put it down. I thought it was really interesting that you could find out what the dogs were thinking and picture it perfectly.
