Title:  Hands That Break, Hands That Heal

Paul Strong is a reporter/ journalist and a volleyball coach at St. Luke’s School.  His work and his coaching result in events he will never forget.  Becky Chapman is a special girl on his volleyball team who is unlike all the other girls on Coach Paul’s team. During one of the first practices she tries to set up the pole for the volleyball net.  It falls on her hand and smashes it. But Becky doesn’t complain, even though she won’t be able to play the rest of the season.  On her way to the hospital she simply raises her thumb, index finger, and pinkie with her uninjured hand. Later Becky and her mother (her father had died), tell the team about the hand sign.  When Mr. Chapman was about to die, he gave this hand sign to his daughter. It means, “I’m ok. You’re ok. I love you.” Everyone is moved by this. The whole book has stories like that.  Others are about a missing deed and a found deed, two lying cheaters finally beaten at their own game, and a couple being reunited after 75 long years. This book is really awesome, and I hope you’ll read it and love it just like me!
