Roy Eberhardt moves
to Florida due to his father's work. Roy has never had any true
friends, because he moves so much. When Dana Matherson, the
school bully, slams Roy's face against the bus window, Roy doesn't
scream or cry for him to stop; he just stares out the window
at a boy running. He is very curious about this boy that he
sees, because he has no shoes, and his clothes are torn. This
boy is running faster than the bus at full speed. A few days
later there are reports of mischievous schemes at the construction
of the All American Mother Paula's Pancake House.
Does the strange boy that Roy sees have anything to do with
the schemes? Will Roy make any friends? Why is this book called
Hoot? I could answer these questions, but that will
give away the book. If you really want to find out, read Hoot
by Carl Hiaasan.

Hoot
is the story of a boy named Roy who just moved to Florida
and Officer David Delinko, a police officer trying to save
his job. Both become involved in a string of vandalism's at
the site of a future Mother Paula's All-American Pancake House.
They discover that burrowing owls are living in the ground
where they are going to bulldoze over. While Roy tries to
help a mysterious boy save the owls, Officer Delinko tries
to figure who is pulling the not so funny pranks.
I really liked
Hoot because it is interesting and funny. There is
always something happening and I never wanted to put it down.
I would defiantly recommend Hoot for everyone.

Roy Eberhardt has always been a social
outcast because he never settles anywhere long enough to meet
friends. This is because his Dad has to travel a lot for his
work. Therefore, it isn't strange that when he first sees
the running boy, Roy's face is being squished against the
bus window by Dana Matherson, the school bully. Something
confuses him about the running boy. So when he sees him the
second time he decides to chase after him. As Roy becomes
better friends with the running boy, the crimes at the empty
lot, soon to be the pancake house, get worse and worse. The
crimes begin with pulling out survey stakes and putting alligators
in the toilets. Then, they progress to removing the seats
from the bulldozers! Is the running boy the culprit? But why
would he have something against Mother Paula's Pancake Company?
I recommend
this book to everyone, because it is an amazing book that
everyone would love. There is only one thing; you must be
a fast reader. The chapters are long and it's VERY hard to
put Hoot down in the middle of a chapter.
