Jackie and
Me is
an awesome sports book. It is about a boy who has the power
to go back in time with the help of a baseball card. Joe just
holds the card of the player he wants to go see, say his name.
Bang! he's there. Joe is doing a report on Jackie Robinson,
the first black baseball player in the M.L.B. He travels back
in time to meet him, and becomes an African American. He even
stays with him. Joe encounters a mean white boy and tempers
flare.
You will enjoy
finding out how Joe gets back and what he does while he is
back in time. Jackie and Me is part of a series by
Dan Gutman. This was a outstanding book. I would rate it a
9 out of 10, because it was so much fun to read, and you learned
a lot about baseball. You also get a feel for what is was
like to be black back then.

Joe Stoshack is
not like any ordinary boy. He has powers that allow him to
travel back in time. His journey back in time takes him to
meet Jackie Robinson, a famous baseball player. Joe travels
back in time and becomes an African American bat boy for the
Brooklyn Dodgers. Danny experiences racism first-hand; he
lives the hate that blacks and whites have for each other.
I recommend this book to people who like baseball. I would
also recommend this book to people who do not know what it
was like when racism was very bad. You'll learn how life was
for Jackie Robinson, how he felt, and how other African Americans
were treated during this era.

Stoshack has a report to do on a person that changed the world,
so as usual he picks a baseball player. He picks Jackie
Robinson. He decides to get a 1947 Jackie Robinson card.
After school he goes to Flip's Baseball Fan Club. He
asks Flip for a 1947 Jackie Robinson card. In 1947 they
had no baseball cards because of World War Two. But
Bon Bread made Jackie Robinson Cards. Flip says, "A
pack of Bon Bread cards costs $5,000 and a single card is
$400." Joe asks if he can borrow a card for a day
and Flip agrees. When Joe uses it he goes back in time.
There is a figure at the end of the room. Who
can it be? Is he the real Jackie Robinson? Read
the book to find out.
