This story is about a young girl chosen by God, to
protect France and its new, young king. She starts out as a farmer's
daughter but one day in the summer, the girl, Joan, is talked to by
voices from heaven and they say that the young king is in great danger
and she has been chosen to protect him and France. Joan finds out that
she can not go out and fight for France as a farmer's daughter, so she
cuts her hair, and takes some of her father's clothes and goes to the
city to fight for her rightful king. When she gets to Orleans the king
disguises himself to look like one his lords to see if Joan really
knows who the prince is. Joan knows who the prince is and she tells
him that he is the only prince. Later she tells the young prince that
she must free Orleans and takes him to Rheims to be crowned. The
voices continue to talk to her and she goes to the bridge where the
English and the French are going to fight. She looks at herself and at
the English army and she knows that she had to raise an army for the
French. The next time she goes to the bridge she has many French
people on her side. The armies fight and the French win. Joan wants to
go home, but the voices tell her not to because she will be taken
prisoner. She is taken prisoner and won't eat or sleep for two days.
She is put on trial and is sentenced to death. She is burned with a
cross hidden in her clothes.I really like
this book because it is a true story about a girl. People say that
girls can't do anything but Joan proves that girls can accomplish a
lot. The illustrations add a lot to the story. Read this
book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
