The Landry News is about a girl named Cara Landry who likes to write. She is new to her school and begins writing a newspaper called The Landry News. Her teacher, Mr. Larson, is not very fond of the Landry News at first, but starts to really enjoy seeing it. The principal of the school, Dr. Barnes, does not like Mr. Larson and wants to have him fired. The only problem for Dr. Barnes is that he can never find a reason to fire Mr. Larson. Mr. Larson has taken all responsibility for the Landry News, so if there is one story that lies, is insulting, or something that’s private, Mr. Larson will be blamed and possibly fired. Will Mr. Larson get fired? These answers and many more will only be told in the book, The Landry News by Andrew Clements.

Cara Landry recently switched schools. She doesn't have any new friends and pretty much keeps to herself. In Cara's afternoon class she has a teacher named Mr. Larson. The only problem is that he doesn't teach. He says that kids learn better when they teach themselves. Cara finds a triangular map and, sitting in front of it, she creates her project. After the first week of school it is finished. Cara walks up to the black board and posts her project on top of it. The Landry News is finished and kids rush up to the board to read what she has successfully written. Everyone loves her work so much that they volunteer to help. About a month goes by and the whole school is reading it. Mr. Larson even starts teaching again! Everything is going great, until one day Cara prints something in her paper that may put Mr. Larson's job on the line!
