Leon
and the Spitting Image
is about a boy named Leon who lives in a hotel because his
mom works at the front desk. Leon is in fourth grade and is
having many problems. He has to deal with a bully named Henry
Lumpkin who taunts him everyday. He has a weird teacher, Mrs.
Hagmeyer, who tortures her students by making them sew stuffed
animals. In school, he is not doing well because he is so
tired from being kept awake at night from a noisy ice-maker
right behind his bedroom wall. His sewing does improves once
the ice-maker is fixed, because he is now able to sleep! Read
this book to figure out if Leon passes final inspection, and
what Mrs. Hagmeyer does with all of those stuffed animals.
I'd give this book a ten out of ten possible points. It is
funny and it is the type of book where you read with a flashlight
under the covers after your parents have turned off the lights!
I recommend this book to everyone, because even though it
is about a boy, it is very exciting and suspenseful.
