When the three Grace children visit their sick aunt in the hospital, they ask her if she knows anything about the Field Guide and its magical creatures.  Aunt Lucinda warns the children to get rid of the book because it has some dangerous spirits.  The fairies and trolls are trying to capture the Field Guide so they can gain control, but the children have to protect the book.  The trolls try to make a deal with the children and tell them in exchange for the Field Guide they will  be free from the bad creatures.  But, the Grace children trick the trolls and keep the valuable Field Guide.

I would rate this book a seven out of ten. It does not have a lot of action especially in the beginning and middle.  It would be an easy book to read for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders.   The books are short and I am looking forward to reading the 4th book.
