| I read the book Lyddie By
Katherine Paterson. The story is about Lyddie, a girl who lives with her Mom her two
sisters and her brother in a poor house. The book starts when a bear manages to creep into
the house and tries to attack the family but everyone is safe. Lyddie's mother thinks it's
the devil who is bringing bad luck so she moves to her sister's house with Lyddie's two
sisters while Lyddie and her brother Charles stay and take care of the small farm.
Unable to make it, Lyddie goes to work in the
clothing mills in Lowell, Massachusettes. The working conditions
for the girls in the factory are terrible. Lyddie only stays in
order to save money to help keep the family together. Her only
comfort is in borrowing books and her dreams of making a better life. Lyddie gets a letter from her mother that says that she and her brother are
going to be separated. Oh No! If you want to find out the end read the book. I
recommend this book to anyone who likes a good book.
