Title:  Medicine's Great Journey
Author:  Rick Smolan and Phillip Moffit
Reviewer:   Dennis X. '10

This book is a very good book to read. I think that because it tells you the history of medicine in the 20th century and how certain medical technologies were invented and how they worked. The book tells you almost all you need to know about medicine in the last century or so in North America, Europe, and Africa. It also tells you who invented what and who were the famous doctors of the time and their backgrounds. The book describes how doctors treated polio before the Salk and Sabin vaccines were invented. It also tells you how doctors treated medical emergencies. I never knew people used gamma globulin to treat polio. I liked the book a lot but I still have some questions for the authors of the book. I noticed that the book didn’t describe much about Asia or Australia. I’m not that sure why some people used water therapy with showers instead of pools. I would also like to ask the author why didn’t he put in how to treat malaria, yellow fever and other diseases. I was really surprised when the book said that AIDS showed up in the 1970s and 80s. I also wonder what caused Aids to start. I wish that doctor could find a cure for AIDS and cancer. Overall I would rate this book a ten out of ten. It was a really fun and interesting book to read.
