| I read the book Night of the
Twisters by Ivy Ruckman. It is based on a true event in 1980 when a sieries
of tornado's hit Nebraska. The book all starts with a boy named Dan Hatch who lives in
grand Island Nebraska. His father goes to his Grandfather's to help around his farm while
Dan, his Mom and Dan's baby brother Ryan are left at the house. Meanwhile Dan's best friend Arthur's Dad was at the armory. And Arthur has
exactly too many siblings. Dan decides to go on an adventure with Arthur, leaving his Mom
with Ryan. They visit Mrs. Smiley, an elderly neighbor. Uhhggg! You know what comes
next... the problem.
Well, it all starts when Dan asks if Arthur can sleep over. Both
parents say yes so the problem starts. Dan and Arthur just relax in front of their dear TV
enjoying every part until they flip to the news. "Grand Island Tornado warnings...
funnel clouds have been spotted over... Please keep tuned for more."
"I think I should go tell Mrs. Smiley," Dan's Mom said. So
she leaves, leaving Dan Arthur and Ryan in the house.(ALONE) They continue to watch TV. CD
CD CD the screen started to flash. (CD means Civil Defense Emergency) Dan goes
to get Ryan. Beeeeeeeeepppppppp. It is the siren. The power has gone out. Dan gets Ryan
and they go to the bathroom for cover. The crashing - the howling - the
rumbling - the screaming - they hear it all trying to survive that horrible thing - the
Monster. The tragedy they survive together ends ... Sorry - Can't tell you the
end.
My reaction to the book is: I love it. I like books based on true
stories because you can learn what other people have gone through in life and so people
can understand how some people who are not as fortunate go through life. It teaches the
people how some people face tragedies and how they survive. I like how the author uses
great description and how she puts so much character in the book. The detail was great and
I felt like I was in the book feeling what they were feeling. I liked the adventure, the
comedy and the action. I recommend this book to everyone. I rate it a 10 (being the
highest.)
