Heckie is a witch, but not a witch with warts and green skin. Heckie
is a good witch, an animal witch. She can turn people into animals,
or just give them animal attributes. She graduated from an Academy of
Good Witches. She has a great friend named Dora, but at the
graduation party, they get into a big argument and decide never to
talk to each other again. Now, Heckie lives in the city of Wellbridge,
where she has started a club of good witches and wizards who rid
Wellbridge of evil people by turning them into animals and putting
them in the zoo. One day, Heckie meets Lionel, a fur store owner, who
knows of Heckie's powers and gets her to fall in love with him, so he
can get her to change 300 prisoners to snow leopards so he can sell
them and make lots of money. Will the prisoners become snow leopards
or will Lionel's evil and dastardly plot fail? Will Heckie and Dora
make up? Read Not Just a Witch and find out for yourself.
I rank this book a 8 out of 10 because it has magic
and animals and a wicked guy who you can really hate, and a happy
ending. I think that all of Eva Ibbotson's books are awesome.
