This book has a series of stories about African Americans in the late
1800's through the early 1900's. Some of these stories are about how
clever African Americans outwit their white slave owners and earn their
freedom. Other stories are about the animals that live in the forest.
The African Americans told these stories to entertain their children and
grandchildren and raise their spirits on freedom. There are still other
stories about how African American children outwitted the spirits of the
earth because they were kind and gentle to the animals around them.
I would recommend this book to people who
enjoy reading about other cultures and about people who strove for their
freedom and got what they wanted because they really tried. This would
be inspirational to someone who is unhappy and wants things to be
another way. It would raise their spirits and make them believe that
they could make things different just like the people in the stories.
