The Red Pony
is about a boy named Jody who lives in the early 1900's on
an old ranch. He wakes up one morning, does his chores, and
when he arrives to breakfast he finds out that his father
and Billy Buck, the Ranch-Hand, are leaving to do some business
in the other towns. Jody suspects that they are just going
to sell some of the cows, so he gets his lunch pail and heads
to school. He returns home and does his chores, feeding the
chickens and filling the wood box. His father and Billy return
with a red pony for Jody, It turns out they were at an auction.
Jody's life becomes the pony, by taking great care of him,
grooming him, and training him. One day it rains while Gabila
the pony was outside, Jody is at school, and Billy and Mr.Tiflin
were away working, so Gabilan caught a cold. If you want to
find out what happens next read The Red Pony by John
Steinbeck.
I would rate The Red Pony six out of ten, because
it's not the kind of book I'm used to reading. I liked how
John Steinbeck made the story change moods, like he made it
sad, then maybe exciting. It wasn't my favorite book, but
I still liked it because it taught me about life beyond mine,
and it taught me that some things just have to happen and
there ís nothing you can do about it. John Steinbeck
has wrote many other books including: The Grapes of Wrath,
Of Mice and Men,
and he won a Pulitzer Prize in 1962.
