| Reviewer: Katie C. '08 Emma Bolton has to stay with her awful Aunt Martha and Cousin Odolf because
her mother is terribly sick. Emma's Mama, Papa, and servant, Mattie are leaving for France
so that Mama will get better. Once Emma gets to her Aunt's house, she puts on some of
Odolf's clothing because she wants to sneak on the Wayfarer to join her family. On
the way, she meets some drunkards who tell her to have a drink with them, but she tricks
them and escapes. She also meets a little boy who gives her a knife and tells her where
the Wayfarer is. When she gets to the dock, two men trick her, saying that the Black
Lightning is really the Wayfarer.
Will she get on the right boat? Will she survive? Where will she go?
