Silverwing by Kenneth Oppel is about a young bat named Shade. He gets separated by a giant storm from his colony when they are migrating, and gets blown out to sea. He meets another bat named Marina with a strange metal band around her forearm. He then travels with Marina and try’s to find his colony in Hibernaclum. Shade also meets two vampire bats named Goth and Throbb. An albino bat that can hear in the past and the future tells Shade and Marina that some friends are not as they seem, and that they will meet an unexpected ally. Who is this ally and what friends are not as they seem? Read Silverwing to find out.
I would recommend Silverwing to people who like suspense and action. It also involves a lot of different things going on at one time.

Ali T. '09 Shade is a member of the silverwing bat colony. He is trying to fly to
the place where his colony hibernates, but he gets blown off course. He ends up on
an island where he meets another bat from the brightwing colony. They go on a quest
together to find Shade's home and his missing father. It is a very difficult journey
for them. Read this great book to find out if they make it back to Shade's home.

was about a Silver Wing bat that caused his colonys tree house to be burned down. He
became separated from his colony when they were searching for a new home. On the way he
met a girl bat and two cannibal bats that wanted to eat not only him, but the rest of his
colony! So
. to make sure no one gets eaten, read Silverwing. This was one of
my favorite books because it was scary and full of adventures.

| Reviewer: Katie N. '08 Shade, a runt of his colony of silver wing bats wants to prove he can do
something important. He takes the dangerous hibernating journey south. But during an ocean
storm, Shade is blown away from his colony. Eventually, he encounters some friends and
enemies: Marina, a Brightwing bat with a strange metal band on her wing, Zephyr, an albino
bat that knows the past and future, and Goth and Throbb, two meat-eating vampire bats
taken from their jungle home. During his hard journey, Shade knows he must find a way to
get back to his colony.
Silverwing is a wonderful novel that inspired me to learn how bats can be very
clever. I like how the author describes the bats personalities. I think Silverwing
is a wonderful book.
