Title:  A Song for Jeffrey
Series: American Girl  #2
Author:  Constance M. Foland
Reviewer:   Sidney J. '09
Jeffrey and Dodie are best friends.  Dodie likes to sing, but does not get into the talent show at her school because she gets nervous. Her parents are divorced and she hates it.  Jeffrey has a disease called muscular dystrophy.  He is in a wheelchair because his leg muscles don't work.  People with this disease don't usually live over the age of twenty.  Jeffrey loves art and he is very good at it, too.  These two friends become very close.

One day Jeffrey has physical therapy and Dodie goes with him.  She finds out that the place where Jeffrey goes for physical therapy has a talent show every year and that Dodie could be in it with him. But Jeffrey does not want to be in it. He decides to paint a mural that will be the background for Dodie when she sings.  You'll have to read the book to find out what happens at the talent show.

This book is so amazing.  It is about friendship and it is very heartwarming.  It tells about Jeffrey's disease and what it takes to be a friend.  It has some sad parts, but at the end it is very happy. I recommend this book to people who like to read about struggles, friendship and kids accomplishing things.
