Imagine children being smart enough to outwit
the Nazis. Well, that is exactly what happens in this suspenseful
book about 20 children who live in the mountains in France during
the German occupation of France. Sister Gabriel, the principal,
is asked to hide ten Jewish refuges. One day while Sister Gabriel
is in town the Nazis come to the school. How and where will
the children hide the refuges?

The Nazis treat the Jews horribly. Adolf Hitler
is the Nazi leader who decides that if anyone is not the perfect
person with blonde hair and blue eyes, he or she will die.
Over six million Jews die during this time which they call the
Holocaust. This is part of World War Two. At the
end of the war Hitler realizes he cannot win, so he commits
suicide by shooting himself.
What does Twenty and Ten
really mean? Read the book to find out!

The book I read is Twenty and Ten by Claire Hucket Bishop.
It is about a girl named Mary who is living with a bunch of other children, and a nun as
her teacher. There is a war going on in France where she lives. The Nazis are trying to
kill the Jews. There is a man who comes to speak to her class about what is going on. Then
he says that there would be Jewish children that can stay with them, as long as they did
not tell anyone that they are living there and they promise.
One day the nun is captured and the Nazis come to their
school and look for the Jews, and they question the young children, like Mary, but the
children will not answer. Mary and another child, Philip, sneek out to help the Jewish
children that are hiding in a small cave that they have found. They do not know what to
do!
So read Twenty and Ten to find out how they
get the Nazis to leave the young Jews alone.
