This book may be the saddest book in the series. Violet, Klaus and Sunny are faced with the difficult challenge of doing everyone's chores in the town of VFD without breaking all the VFD rules.  And they are still trying to find the Quagmire triplets. They get to live with Hector the handyman who is always breaking the rules behind the console of elders. But they... Can't tell you so read the book to see what Olaf is up to now.

The Vile Village is about three orphans whose names are Violet, Klaus, and Sunny. They are under the care of a banker, Mr. Poe, who always has a terrible cough.

The orphans' parents have died, as told in the first book in the series, The Bad Beginning.   Mr. Poe has been put in charge of their extraordinarily large fortune.   Count Olaf, their first guardian after their parents' death, is still trying to get his hands on the Baudelaires' fortune.

In this book, Mr. Poe decides that the Baudelaires should be taken care of by a village.   He gets this strange idea from a brochure;   the people who wrote the brochure have the idea that "it takes a village to raise a child."

The Baudelaires don't encounter the type of village they would have liked.   The village is full of crows, they are forced to do chores, and they have to clean up after the Elders who make up millions of rules.   Someone spots a man with an eye, the sign of Count Olaf, on his ankle and one eyebrow.   The Baudelaires are overjoyed because that means that the police have caught Count Olaf.

Once they see this man they know that everyone is mistaken.   The man is not Count Olaf.   He is Jaques Snicket.   A detective named Dupin comes to investigate "Olaf." When the Baudelaires see Dupin they know that once again everyone is mistaken.   Dupin is the real Olaf.

When Jaques Snicket is murdered in his prison cell,  Olaf accuses the Baudelaires of murdering him.   The Baudelaires don't know what to do.

I really like this book.   It is supposed to be sad, but the way the author writes,  it makes it seem less sad.    Sunny is the most interesting character.   She bites everything, including hard things like bronze blocks.   She talks to her brother and sister using her own language.   She crawls from place to place.   I recommend it to everyone who likes adventure books.

The Vile Village, by Lemony Snicket, is the seventh entertaining book in "A Series of Unfortunate Events." In this book, the three Baudelaire orphans, Violet, Sunny, and Klause, are forced to live in yet another place. This time it is in V.F.D, or the "Village of Fowl Devotees." The village is the place where the V.F.D. crows live. There are over 14,000 rules, and if you don’t obey them, you will be burned at the stake. The Baudelaires live with Hector, the handyman. Once again, Count Olaf, the orphans’ guardian is up to no good. He has the Quagmire triplets hidden somewhere. Will the Baudelaires find the Quagmires and escape the evil Count Olaf? If you have loved reading the other books in this series as much as I have, read this book to find out what happens this time!
