I received this book as a birthday present, because
it is about martial arts and I take karate. In this book, a young boy
named Luka is raised by a monk in China a long time ago. Luka is the
"holy boy," the future Emperor. The monk teaches him the secrets of
karate. When Luka is 11 years old, the monk gets taken away from him
by soldiers. Luka is on his own, and goes on a quest to save the
monk. He meets friends, including a martial arts Grand Master, who
gifts him with a secret art. He even goes to an ancient Xi-Ling
temple and escapes a death row camp. He has an amazing adventure.
Although you don't have to know karate to enjoy this book, it did help
me understand some parts better. This book does have a little bit of
crude language, so I don't recommend it for young kids.
Wandering Warrior might be especially good for 4th grade and
above. It is a long book, at 322 pages. However, I enjoyed this book
and I could hardly put it down.

Wandering Warrior is
an awesome book filled with description and suspense. The suspense is
so powerful, that some nights I didn't want to go to bed. The things
that kept me reading this book are the martial arts and the story
setting's geographical location, China. When the Mogo forces conquer
China, Luka, a 12-year-old boy, must mask his identity as future
emperor, while surviving jail and mastering the fighting style of
Kung Fu. This book also gave me a head start on the fifth grade's
study of China. I really think that Da Chen has hit the spot with this
book.
