This is a story about
White Fang, a.k.a Cub, a small pup, born by a half-wolf, half-dog
mother and a wolf father. Surviving alone with his mother, White
Fang learns about his environment and things that affect him
without help. After surviving a harsh winter, White Fang and
his mother, Kiche, are returned to Kiche's original and only
owner's tribe. Gray Beaver takes custody of White Fang when
his mother is taken upstream to pay the debt for another "Indian"
(Native American).
The journey of White
Fang does not only take place while White Fang is with Gray
Beaver. Gray Beaver exchanges White Fang to "Beauty"
Smith for a few flasks of whiskey. Beauty turns White Fang into
a fighting dog where he succeeds every time, until one day a
bulldog is thrown into the ring and the outlook doesn't seem
good for White Fang. Finally, a man rescues Fang and treats
him like an owner should. I think this book is sometimes sad,
but it is a very heart-warming tale at some points. I believe
this would be a great read for someone who enjoys adventures,
and is able to endure some gruesome images.
