| The Winter of Red Snow is the diary
of a girl named Abigail Stewart who lived in Valley Forge during the Revolutionary War.
During the winter of 1777, Abigail, a young girl whose mother is about to give birth to
her new baby brother fears that her new brother might die in the cold of the winter. She
is so worried because her mother has given many births before, and only she and her two
sisters survived their first winter. All the rest died. Abigail is sick of deaths, each
more painful than the last. Little does she know that just nineteen days later, she will
begin to see even more deaths. On December 19, 1777, Abigail and her family gather around
their front door to watch the sick, poorly clothed and shoeless soldiers pass by their
house. She has never felt so sad in her life. Join Abby as she experiences the
Revolutionary War. She sees death, heroism, loves torn and mended, and it all happens in
her own back yard. Read The Winter of Red Snow to find out more about the book. Spring 2001 |
