A Year Down Yonder is a great story that keeps your thumbs turning no matter what. It’s about a girl named Mary Alice who has to spend a whole year down in her Grandma’s hick town. When she was smaller, Mary Alice went with her brother and stayed for a week each summer. But now Joey is grown up and planting trees out West. Now Mary Alice is fifteen and has to go by herself. Between chasing off a bully by letting go of her horse, and missing out houses, you will never no what will pop up at Grandma Dowdels’.

Will Mary Alice make it to the end of the year? If she does, will she want to stay with Grandma instead of going back to Chicago? Read the awesome book A Year Down Yonder by Richard Peck to find out!
