An Acceptable Time by Madeleine L’Engle is about Polly, a teenager, who is staying at her grandparent’s house. One day though, Polly accidentally walks through a time gate opened by a friend of her grandparents. Once the friend tells Polly’s grandparents the facts, they are wary. Polly tells her boyfriend all about the time gate. He has a bad heart and thinks that if he goes back in time, it will help. He pulls Polly, against her will, back through the time gate. When they try to return home, the time gate has closed! The friend of the family is also back in time with them. He feels responsible for Polly and her friend being stuck 3000 years in the past.
